Certified Tutor

I graduated from Ferris State University with a BS in Biotechnology. While attending, I took part in several research projects including studies in the biology of plant genetics and the chemical formation of co-crystal structures. I am currently completing a PhD in Genetics from Baylor College of Medicine where I use yeast as a model organism to study mechanisms of maintaining genome stability. My work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals including Nature Communications and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. I have experience teaching and tutoring at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels, and I am passionate about making complex biology and chemistry concepts accessible and digestible, as well as inspiring students with the real-world applications of STEM concepts. I also have experience mentoring in technical writing, grant writing, and science writing and editing, helping students clearly convey their science and big ideas. I have loved seeing students make strides not only through additional instruction, but also by integrating test-taking strategies into my tutoring sessions. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hand embroidery, spending time with my husband and daughter, and serving in my church community.
