Joel, Ph.D. was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 14, 1982. From a humble, lower class, an unconventional but loving family he was raised by his Grandmother on her mother side Miriam better known as "Yiya". The young artist grew loving classic films, TV, and reading. On the summer of 1996 when he was 14 years old mesmerized by the hit song by "Smashing Pumpkins" "Tonight, Tonight" music video, he discovered that the video that impacted his life was an homage to the great filmmaker Georges Mlis and from that moment he knew what he wanted to do. He specializes in the Film and Photography industries as a Writer/Scriptwriter/Content Writer, Director, Videographer, Cinematographer, Photographer, and Editor. In addition, he loves and practice all forms of art, he is a self-thought Artisan, Painter and all-around Auteur Artist (The word auteur came into English from the French word of the same name, meaning literally author., An auteur is a singular artist who controls all aspects of a collaborative creative work, a person equivalent to the author of a novel or a play. The term is commonly referenced to filmmakers or directors with a recognizable style or thematic preoccupation). This Auteur Artist is either working on his art or reading and writing fiction and non-fiction narrative as well watching and studying films, writing structure, art, photography, history, politics, science, world religions and many other subjects, including learning Portuguese as a medium of entertainment.
Joel graduated from high school in 2000 and began building his skills in media at a local church as a camera operator. He enrolled in the telecommunication program at the Universidad Del Sagrado Corazn in January 2001. While at Universidad Del Sagrado Corazn, he became the Technical Director of Tele Sagrado, the universitys TV station, which transmitted live on cable TV coast to coast on the island. He built his skills in journalism, editing, writing, for TV and printed media. He used these skills to work as a freelancer for many productions, short films, TV stations, etc. In 2008, Joel worked at a local TV station as a director and continued his freelance work covering venues such as writing, editing, and producing and directing the video for private events. The increase in demand from the private sector resulted in Joel starting his production company, Innova Video & Photo Solution (VPS). Innova VPS provided custom video, photography, writing, and other services for private venues year-round. In 2013, Joel was credited as the cinematographer for a professional short film that was projected on the big screen that same year. Soon after, Joel enrolled in Atlantic University College where he finished an Associates Degree in Digital Cinematography, at the same time he starts JwX Entertainment and JwX Reel, the first one as umbrella brand to cover Innova VPS (For Private and Corporate Production), JwX REEL (For All Film Projects) and recently JwX Artist Auteur (JAA) (For His Own Art, Wearable Art, Fashion, SteamPunk and scrap art expression.) As JwX Entertainment, Innova VPS, and JwX REEL made a name and reputation as Visual Production reliable options, and content creator innovators, JwX Artist Auteur stayed private for his personal Art, Wearable Art, Jewelry, Fashion, SteamPunk, and Scrap art (Art made out of broken and discarded objects) projects until 2016 when his Wife Samaris Ferrer start placing some of his art on her own artisan blooming business "Kokedama By Sama" this attracted the attention of different business in Texas and later in California as it keeps expanding. Both JwX Artist Auteur and Kokedama By Sama are in different boutiques, galleries and other exclusive venues around the states.

Joel wrote and directed different projects while at Atlantic University College. Casa del Loco, Brujas, Crush-ed and Conquista, are short films that he completed at Atlantic in addition to his first feature film Camelia. Camelia was the last film Joel released in Puerto Rico before moving with his wife to Houston, Texas in 2014 following her professional opportunity. Joel enrolled at The Art Institute of Houston where he co-wrote and co-directed a short film call Wasted Chances.
In 2015, Joel attended Texas Southern University where he completed a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Radio, Television, and, Film, then a Masters degree in Film Directing from Campus Universitario Europeo (CUE) in Spain and a Doctoral degree in Film Directing with a minor in screenwriting from American Andragogy University (AAU) in Hawaii.
In addition to his film studies, Dr. Lopez took courses in psychology at the following universities: Universidad Metropolitana, Sagrado Corazn, Atlantic University College and American Andragogy University.
He is currently working on 3 film projects of his creation, "Slice" Short Film, "The Katy Incident" and "Slice" Full Feature Version.
Joels favorite artists are Georges Mlis, Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Mario Moreno (Cantinflas), and Cecil B DeMille to name a few. He continues to be a budding filmmaker, writer, photographer, and all-around artist (Auteur) in Texas California and Puerto Rico with professional credits, roles, and awards listed on IMDB.
