What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy in teaching is to help students understand problems rather than just memorize them. This way, students feel more confident tackling new problems.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would typically ask what areas in a subject the student feels they need to work on the most. I will also ask them some questions from their syllabus if applicable to see what areas the student need to work on.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Yes. My goal is to help students understand the material, not just memorize them. This is essential for becoming an independent learner.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would try to nail down precisely why the student has difficultly learning a skill or concept. This is important, because nailing down the precise reason can help remove other weaknesses the students had.
