My Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University has enabled me to flourish in various capital markets functions over the past three decades. As a trader, salesman, and risk manager within the fixed income markets I have had to make pragmatic, non-theoretical business decisions on a daily basis. As a Varsity Tutor I will take the same pragmatic approach and attempt to ensure that you as the student not only arrive at the correct conclusion, but grasp the underpinnings of your decision. You will not just answer the question correctly but will be in possession of the deliberative thought process that impelled you to that correct answer. We all want the correct answer, we all want the 100% score; that is a given. But if you can obtain the correct answer AND develop a thought process that can be employed again and again to solve future problems then you have truly added to your knowledge base. My overall teaching philosophy is to engage the student and attempt to point out certain real world applications to material that one may deem (admittedly) sometimes a bit dry. The link from the lecture hall to the job place will keep one engaged and hopefully keep one focused on the ultimate goal: a higher base of knowledge that will better enable one to fully rise to his or her full potential.
