Chiquita
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the University of Georgia. I received a Bachelor's Degree in both Spanish and Political Science. During my undergraduate career, I spent my junior year as an exchange student at the University of Puerto Rico taking classes in Spanish linguistics, business Spanish, American Foreign Policy, and Constitutional Law. I later studied law for a year and a half and then attended the University of California Los Angeles, where I received a graduate certificate in Spanish Interpretation & Translation.
In my free time I enjoy the performing arts, going to the movies, learning new languages, and reading.
I have tutored students previously from elementary to middle school age. I have also conducted conversational English classes for college students and adults while living in Puerto Rico. Additionally, I have tutored adults in Spanish as well. I love working with students of all ages! I love to incorporate role play exercises with my tutoring sessions along with other activities. I like to make sessions interactive.
The subjects I am available to tutor are all levels of Spanish, elementary and middle school math up to Pre-Algebra, U.S. government & Politics, and sociology.
I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

What is your teaching philosophy?
Consistent study with creative tools will lead to retaining information more quickly!
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I believe in using games and activities to motivate my students and keep them engaged.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would continue to present the information in various formats.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I like to first find out how much the student understands by asking questions, having them complete exercises, and then beginning where I discover that there is lack of knowledge.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I like oral and written exercises to determine retention of information.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I continuously compliment the student when they show understanding of the material.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I like to use written assessments.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Books with written exercises as well as online exercises.
