Though math may be my first love, my natural curiosity for the world around me has led to many varied interests: from camping to painting to cooking to carpentry to screenwriting to city planning. My passions may be disparate, but they allow me to draw up real-life examples for abstract questions, making them more accessible to students. 'But I'll never need to use this stuff in real life' is a refrain I'm not afraid to challenge. I hope to give students a new perspective on not just the importance, but the utility and beauty of math, no matter what field they plan to go into.
Coming from a large family, I spent many a family gathering helping my younger cousinsfrom ages 5 to 22with their math homework. I've worked closely with kids, teens, and college students in several capacities: as a Big Sister, an advisor to a youth Venturing Crew, a technical director for high-school theater productions, and a Resident Advisor (RA) to college freshmen.
Originally from the Philadelphia area, I only recently moved to Los Angeles and am quickly growing to love the city and its inhabitants.
