I'm a second-year English major and Spanish minor at Kenyon College, where I have honed my writing and close reading skills. Through Capital University, I am earning a teaching license to teach English language arts to adolescents to young adults (7th through 12th grade). Through numerous pedagogy and literacy classes, I have studied and practiced teaching these ELA skills to high schoolers. Although I've worked as an editor at my college's newspaper and Spanish literary magazine, I am happiest when I am able to teach writing, whether when I'm working at the Writing Center as a writing tutor or volunteering at Hola! Tutoring with the local Hispanic/Latino community. While I have tutored a variety of subjects and worked with students from preschool-aged to adult, I work best when tutoring high schoolers in reading and writing. I believe in a student-centered approach to education and I always structure my tutoring sessions around achievable goals: ones that align with the Common Core Standards and college preparation. As someone who has learned to navigate academic rigor and high DC standards with multiple learning disabilities, I believe that every student can succeed and every student will accomplish their goals. I love working with students on close reading skills, every step of the essay-writing process, and understanding and utilizing grammatical conventions. I love teaching English at all levels, whether the student is still learning the language or perfecting their craft. When I'm not reading, writing, or editing, I love attending theatrical performances, going on long hikes, and exploring museums.

I am a storyteller, whether I am writing, teaching, or creating other kinds of art. I currently work at a theater in Arlington, VA in the evenings and I spent all of high school doing technical theater. I almost majored in theater! However, I found my calling in writing: whether it is playwriting, reviewing plays, writing creative essays and short stories, or writing academically. I love going to art galleries and museums to look at works of art, another storytelling medium. I am a big fan of watching movies, tv shows, and documentaries. I will watch anything! I even listen to podcasts as I go on hikes with my dog. Stories have made me who I am today: a dreamer, an artist, and a storyteller. I hope to share this magic with my students.
