I have a Dual Bachelors from Canisius College in Political Science & Criminal Justice. I am a former Investigator with the State of New Jersey. I have been a freelance tutor in various subject areas for over 10 years. I have tutored all ages from elementary through college-level. My specialty is English essay writing, proofreading, study skills, and general homework assistance. I also have many years of experience in tutoring SAT Math & Verbal, as well as mathematics elementary through college statistics. My philosophy on tutoring is that we are students and we have the opportunity to learn something new everyday!
When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy long walks, reading mystery novels, watching psychological thrillers, writing poetry, painting and drawing. I also have 10 years of classical ballet training, as well as a few years as a gymnast.

I might try to find out more information about the student's history to find the best approach to use with them.

By providing the student with minimal assistance.

I would help a student stay motivated by using positive reinforcement with them, and very encouraging words.

I patiently keep working with the student until they understand the skill or concept.

I help students who are struggling with reading comprehension by offering helpful hints to help them overcome it.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I have found that it's best to ask questions and keep the student motivated.

I would help a student get excited/engaged with a subject they are struggling in by encouraging them more and making the subject a little more fun!

I would quiz the student with similar questions to see if they truly understand the material.

I would build a student's confidence by letting them know frequently how well they are progressing.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would evaluate a student's needs by first asking questions to get a general idea of what the student is looking to get from tutoring.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I adapt my tutoring to the student's needs by acknowledging that every student is different. So the approach has to be as individualized as the student.

I utilize online materials, as well as pencils, pens, and paper.
