7th Grade Tutoring FAQ
For many students, seventh grade can feel like a bit of a slump. It typically lacks the excitement that sixth graders experience when first transitioning to the middle school environment, and it does not include the eager anticipation of beginning high school that accompanies eighth grade studies. It can be easy for students to lose focus at this point in their middle school education, especially if they struggle with or outpace one of their classes.
Seventh grade typically involves classes in math, language arts, history, science, a selection of electives, and potentially the beginning of formal study of a foreign language. Given this wide breadth of subject matter, it is easy to see how students can encounter difficulties in understanding the subject material in one or more of their classes. In addition to the breadth of topics seventh grade covers, students may struggle with the type and pace of instruction they receive. Perhaps they learn material faster than the pace at which one of their classes presents it, but they have trouble keeping up in another class. Perhaps another class is difficult for them because the way in which their instructor presents the material doesn't mesh well with their personal learning style.
Additionally, seventh grade students are often still learning how to most effectively study and manage their time, which can cause them to encounter additional challenges when learning through the process of trial and error. A lot of students are unsure of the best way to study. This varies from student to student and your child may not receive any instruction on how to study, or they could be receiving a lot of conflicting information. Figuring out how to study to achieve their best results is extremely important because using study methods that are not effective will result in wasted time and poor test scores. A private tutor can help in this regard because they can identify exactly how your child learns best and then apply this information to helping them develop an effective study plan.
Despite these challenges, it is important that seventh graders master the concepts presented in each of their classes in order to excel in the coursework that they will undertake in eighth grade, high school, and beyond. If your seventh grade student is struggling in one of his or her classes, or could use some assistance in developing stronger study skills, 大象传媒 can help you to connect with a tutor to help your student get on a path to academic success.
大象传媒 can help connect you with tutors nationwide and in any of the academic subjects with which your student might be struggling. Your child's tutor can develop a learning plan specifically designed to address his or her academic needs, making each session efficient and effective. Your child can work at his or her own pace, and his or her tutor can make use of teaching methods that work well with your child's preferred learning style.
Tutoring can also be scheduled to meet short-term or long-term needs, and can take place at the time and location that best suits your schedule. 大象传媒' live learning platform enables you and your child to meet with their private tutor in person or face-to-face online. This provides you and your child with the flexibility to choose the time and place that works best. So whether your child feels more comfortable studying in the library, at home, or in a park, their tutor can meet them wherever they would like.

Recent 7th Grade Tutoring Session Notes
Today we started with the student's math homework. We did a few probability problems about coin tosses. He grasped the concept of solving them after the first problem. We then spent some time reviewing his progress with his missing assignments. He informed me that many were completed. We looked at powerschool and made a new list for each course of the missing or late assignments the student still needs to make up. He made reminders in his assignment notebook and seemed proud that the number had decreased.
For the first 40 minutes we went over math. We did comparative ratios, probability and fractions. The last 20 minutes we went over reading comprehension. He read passages, then wrote a paragraph describing the author's purpose and tone. We also went over key words in the passage.
We worked on a lot of things during our extended session. We reviewed all basic arithmetic and began working on plotting points on Cartesian planes. We also worked on basic algebra. We covered outlining, identifying main idea, and selecting details for language arts.
We covered English concepts that will be on the student's admissions test. He learned some new vocabulary as well as learned new skills to do the logic portion of the exam. He is going to do the remaining exercises in the sections that we covered today.
The student and I worked on her summer social studies project, outlining the steps she needs to take to write a fictional biography of a character from the Revolutionary War. We discussed details leading up to the Revolutionary War and features needed for a biography. We then practiced basic algebra and grammar exercises.
The student and I worked on writing, vocabulary, and math. I talked to her about writing chapter summaries, and we went over vocabulary together. After this, I had her do a word problem. The book she was reading seemed a bit hard for a 7th grader, but she seemed to enjoy it. The challenge is to get her to write complete and thorough chapter summaries. Finally, we did the math problem out of a work book. I asked her to finish reading the chapter and to write her chapter summary.
